An Army of Enrollment Helpers
With the countdown clock ticking, an army of over 1,000 enrollment helpers across the state is being trained and educated about the Affordable Care Act in preparation for open enrollment.
After an influx of $30 million in federal funds (through Navigator and In Person Counselor grants) to community based organizations throughout the state, the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace team has been working every day to prepare this army of helpers with the tools, resources and knowledge to enroll uninsured residents. Certified Application Counselors are additional members of this group receiving federal and some state training.
The University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and their team of experts are leading the (not so basic) training to educate the new recruits on difficult concepts, such as Medicaid, private insurance, Marketplace options, tax credits and the new shared responsibility provisions in the ACA. After being trained, the assisters - who were hired because they are trusted members of their communities - will be receiving certification from the state and will be open for business to educate and enroll the uninsured in Illinois.
Watch for news of the new Illinois Marketplace website to open in 17 days where you can enroll in coverage and find helpers in your community.
